Yellowstone Shocks Fans With BIG NEWS About Season 6

Forget everything you thought you knew about Yellowstone’s future. The years-long news cycle about rumored spin-offs, Matthew McConaughey–led sequels, and Kevin Costner’s potential return in season 5?

That’s all over now. Costner’s character, John Dutton, is dead. In season 5’s midseason premiere, creator Taylor Sheridan promptly threw the fate of the Dutton family into chaos.

With just five more episodes left before the season—and maybe the series—ends, anything is possible.

Reportedly, season 6 is even on the table. According to a report from Puck’s Matthew Belloni, Paramount is considering keeping the flagship series going despite billing season 5 as the final one.

Variety confirmed the story, including new information that fan favorites Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) are currently in talks to return.

Paramount has yet to comment on the rumors. Earlier this fall, the network announced a sequel series titled The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Lost’s Matthew Fox as members of a new family, the Clyburns.

That news had already opened a can of worms regarding Yellowstone’s future—namely, who the hell are the Clyburns?

Yellowstone’s Final Ride: Luke Grimes Teases a Heartbreaking End as Beth and Rip Exit Montana

Luke Grimes just spilled the beans on Yellowstone’s grand finale, and it sounds like the Dutton saga is heading for its end-end. Yep, no clever cliffhangers—this chapter is closing for good.

While fans brace for the fallout, whispers about Beth and Rip leaving Montana for their spin-off adventure are already stealing the spotlight. Trading ranch life for who-knows-what? Bold move.

I mean, it’s the end — the end-end. I had no idea how the show was going to [wrap up], and I wanted to save reading that episode for the very last second… I was a mess. It’s beautiful. It’s profound. It’s heartbreaking.

The road to the finale wasn’t smooth. Behind-the-scenes drama with Kevin Costner sped up the show’s conclusion, and Part 2 of Season 5 kicked off with a bang—or, more accurately, a gunshot.

But what’s next for Yellowstone? Beth and Rip are reportedly leaving Montana for their next chapter, though details remain under wraps.

Rumor has it the ranch goes back to its Native roots, marking the end of the Dutton dynasty.

Will Yellowstone Season 6 With Rip & Beth Happen? Yellowstone Can Now Continue Freely After John’s Death

Aside from the string of prequels that will continue, Sheridan is also launching a couple of Yellowstone spinoffs set in the modern day.

That includes the previously-reported 6666 offshoot and the recently-announced The Madison starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Fox, and Patrick J. Adams.

When the aforementioned shows will debut is still unknown at this point, which makes sense, considering that Sheridan’s focus is on finishing Yellowstone season 5 by declaring the winner between Beth and Jamie’s ongoing feud.

That said, if “All You Need Is Desire” is any indication, a Rip and Beth-led Yellowstone show is very possible. The Neo-Western series is a massive hit, and while there are offshoots that can continue its legacy if it wraps up its run, nothing can still compare to the success of the flagship show.

With Costner’s time effectively finished, Sheridan can move the project forward in a different direction, as it ushers a new generation of Duttons at its forefront. Aside from Rip and Beth, Kayce, Monica, and Carter can round up the revamped ensemble.
